Things appear to be reaching a tipping point where the southern U.S. border is concerned. In Texas, multiple states, including Texas, are resisting the federal government in its move to remove razor wire from along a section of the border. In Washington, the House of Representatives Homeland Security Committee has drafted impeachment charges against Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas.
He has been charged with two counts. The first is for the “willful and systemic refusal to comply with the law,” and the second is for “breach of the public trust.”
These are actually low-hanging fruit that should be easily proven by comparing statements Mayorkas made under oath with actual facts and comparing his oath of office with what he has actually done.
The committee’s decision came after seeing evidence and hearing testimony from attorneys general in states affected by Mayorkas’s lack of action on the border. Legal experts and parents of children who died from fentanyl that came across the border or killed by illegal immigrants who were gang members also testified.
While these things happening is better late than never, sadly, a lot of damage has been done to our country’s security, infrastructure, and the health of cities because the Democrats are trying to hold onto power at all costs.
One damning piece of evidence against Mayorkas is a September 2021 memo in which he directed DHS to limit immigration enforcement, which is pretty much the opposite of what it should have been doing.
“The fact an individual is a removable noncitizen therefore should not alone be the basis of an enforcement action against them,” Mayorkas wrote in the memo.
Something else going against him is the numbers the numbers the federal government is recording. Under his leadership, Customs and Border Patrol agents have recorded millions of encounters with illegal migrants, often setting new records. With a record that bad, any executive with any integrity would have resigned, realizing he or she can’t do the job properly.
Part of the second article of impeachment centers on Mayorkas lying to Congress when he told the men and women, who are essentially his bosses, that the border was “secure” and “closed.” These are things that even the president is having to admit isn’t true.
As a supporter of law enforcement officers, I am glad to see his support of the lie about Border Patrol agents “whipping” illegal migrants in 2021 coming back to bite him. He was willing to throw his agents under the bus because it played into the narrative the Biden Administration hoped to create. However, a federal investigation found that the agents didn’t whip. This is something Mayorkas should have known.
“These facts are beyond dispute, and the results of his lawless behavior have been disastrous for our country. Empowered and enriched cartels, mass fentanyl poisonings, surges of terror watchlist suspects, more criminal illegal aliens causing harm in our communities, and traumatized and exploited migrants will be Secretary Mayorkas’ open-borders legacy,” House committee chairman, Mark Green, told the DCNF.
What happens from this point is still up in the air. The Republican-controlled House might impeach Mayorkas, but the Democrat-controlled Senate probably wouldn’t remove him. In an interesting twist, President Biden, who wants to be re-elected, is trying to sound tough on the border and do something that shows it.
Wouldn’t it be karma striking if the man who threw Border Patrol agents under the bus gets a similar treatment from President Biden? We can only hope.
