Obama Breaks Another Promise, Will Not Illegally Write and Pass Own Immigration Law

President Obama promised he would create his own immigration law this summer, bypassing Congress and the Constitution.  Today he conceded for political reasons he will not keep that promise, at least not before the November election, but then claimed it was not politics.

Immigration-reform advocates expressed their objections Saturday to President Obama’s delaying executive action to change U.S. immigration policy, including cries of bitter disappointment and accusations that the president has caved to election-year politics.

“We are bitterly disappointed in the president,” said Frank Sharry, executive director of the group America’s Voice. “The president and Senate Democrats have chosen politics over people.”

In an interview taped for NBC’s “Meet the Press,” Obama rejected the charge that the delay was meant to protect Democratic candidates worried that his actions would hurt their prospects in tough Senate races.

However, Obama did concede that politics played a role, claiming that a partisan fight in July over how to address an influx of unaccompanied minors at the border had created the impression that there was an immigration crisis and thus a volatile climate for taking the measures he had promised to take.

“The truth of the matter is — is that the politics did shift midsummer because of that problem,” he said. “I want to spend some time, even as we’re getting all our ducks in a row for the executive action, I also want to make sure that the public understands why we’re doing this, why it’s the right thing for the American people, why it’s the right thing for the American economy.”

However, the delay resulted in widespread reaction from across the country and the political spectrum. http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2014/09/07/obama-reportedly-delay-on-immigration-reform-brings-storm-criticism-from/

Obama has a long history of delaying things to avoid accountability.  The biggest example of that is the ObamaCare rollout.  It was delayed three years so voters would not be able to see it, until after Obama could be re-elected.

One month ago Larry Sabato of the University of Virginia said that it would likely backfire on Obama, if Obama did an executive order.  He said calls for impeachment of Obama would increase.   It is widely believed that what Obama promised to do, is illegal.

In early September it was predicted be the below panel that Obama would break his word on this promise, because it would hurt Obama and the Democrats in November:

  1. In a new Rasmussen poll released Thursday, “62% of likely U.S. voters oppose the president granting amnesty to millions of illegal immigrants without the approval of Congress” with 57% believing he does not have the legal authority to do so. This comes on the heels of Pew’s August 20th survey, which shows nearly identical findings with “61% of Americans disapprov[ing] of Obama’s immigration policy.”
