Devil Theory about ObamaCare Rollout, H.M. Hervey

Devil Theory: Republicans began to hear the horror stories about the all technical problems plaguing the ObamaCare website early in 2013. So they hit upon an ingenious but politically dangerous plan that would leverage the insular nature of the Obama Administration and the hyper-partisanship of liberals. Republicans knew the website would explode at liftoff so they publically pressed Obama to delay ACA for a year with the full and certain knowledge he would not. And Republicans knew Obama wouldn’t delay only because they demanded a delay.

God knows I’m not in the business of praising Republicans.  But after due consideration and reflection, I’m starting to believe Republicans might be smarter than they look.  Of course that’s easy for them since they usually look and act so dumb.

The GOP repeatedly pressed for a delay, voted to repeal ACA 40 times knowing full-well that Obama would never give them such a political victory. Republicans even decided to go to the mat with a Filibuster and caused a short government shutdown.  And they did all that for the expressed purpose of forcing Obama to launch ACA even though he knew the website was not ready for prime time.  No matter what, Obama could not give into GOP demands for a delay because the public would perceive that as a BIG political loss for him and Democrats.  Obama figured his base (the Media) would hide the problems with the rollout, that Democrats would protect him since they all voted for it and the public would still blame the GOP for the shut down. Oooops.

But Ted Cruz and a few courageous Republicans knew the short-term political hit they would suffer because of the shutdown would be minor when compared to the deep and long-lasting political damage Obama and Democrats would sustain when ObamaCare exploded.   In order words, the GOP understood that Obama’s own words locked him into a very bad spot. The Plan is working.

Perhaps I’m giving Republicans far too much credit.  They would probably be far too afraid to execute such a clever plan and could NEVER admit it publically.  But it might just be true.
