An automobile containing an improvised explosive device (IED) exploded at a military academy on Monday leaving an estimated eight soldiers dead in the Libyan city of Benghazi, according to a former police department intelligence analyst, Jacob Rosenberg.

The apparent terrorist attack targeted Libyan army officers leaving a graduation ceremony. Besides the death numerous people suffered wounds from the enormous explosion that left a crater in its wake, according to Roseberg.

While not part of the attack at the academy, Middle East news media reported that a second car bomb exploded elsewhere in the hazardous city of Benghazi that killed one soldier on Monday.

Benghazi was the location that sparked the 2011 national rebellion against Libya’s dictator Col. Moamar Khadhafi. Khadhafi was eventually ousted and killed by an angry mob after a 42-year reign of terror.
